Knicks at Spurs Game 2 odds: New York favored to win NBA Finals after winning opener
The NBA Finals now go through Madison Square Garden. The New York Knicks won Game 1 of the Finals on the road in San Antonio on Wednesday and now only have to win at home to win the franchise’s first championship since 1973.
With the 105-95 win in Game 1, New York is now favored to win the series. The Knicks were +160 before the start of the series and are now currently listed at -140. It’s obviously still early, and the Knicks are only slight favorites with those odds, but it’s still been a very long time since New York has been in this position.

This is the first time the Knicks have been favored to win the title since 1993-94 season when New York was +120 favorites entering the Conference Finals per @SOHistory 👀

Game 2 is in primetime on Friday, and it already feels like a must-win for the Spurs.
Game 2: New York Knicks at San Antonio Spurs
Knicks lead series 1-0
Time: Friday, 8:30 p.m. ET
TV: ABC
Series odds: Knicks -140, Spurs +120
The Spurs are favored by 5.5 points in Game 2 on DraftKings. That’s a minor move from Game 1, where the Spurs were 4.5-point favorites. The Game 1 loss hasn’t shifted the odds in New York’s favor, although the urgency for San Antonio could be countering any shift in relative strength of the two teams.
Only five times in NBA Finals history have teams come back from 2-0 down in the series to win (2021 Bucks, 2016 Cavaliers, 2006 Heat, 1977 Trail Blazers, 1969 Lakers). None of those five teams lost the first two games at home. That’s what’s on the line for San Antonio in Game 2. A loss on Friday means the Spurs would have to do something that has never been done before.
After a solid start in Game 1, San Antonio built a 14-point lead in the middle of the third quarter. Knicks star Jalen Brunson was just 7-for-22 from the field through three quarters and was nursing injuries, but New York battled back to tie the game entering the fourth quarter.
That’s when Brunson took over.
One of the league’s most accomplished closers shook off the slow start and the injuries with a 13-point fourth quarter on 5-for-9 shooting.
Why do the Knicks keep winning?
Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama never got going in his first NBA Finals game. He finished with 26 points thanks to 12-of-13 free-throw shooting, but was just 6-for-21 from the field and 2-for-9 from 3-point range.
Due to his clutch performance in Game 1, Brunson has taken the top spot in NBA Finals MVP odds from Wemby. Brunson is -105 on DraftKings while Wemby is +125. The next player is Karl-Anthony Towns at +1100 (11-to-1).
Neither team shot especially well. The Knicks were 11-for-36 from beyond the arc (31 percent) while the Spurs were an even worse 11-for-43 (26 percent). Was that Knicks rust and Spurs fatigue, or solid perimeter defending from both teams?
In Game 2, the Spurs will need more from their star big man. Wemby looked more human than alien other than a few plays on Wednesday. The odds are saying to expect more from the French star on Friday, as his listed point total for Game 2 is at 27.5.
