This week’s TV: Nicole Kidman as Kay Scarpetta, Michelle Pfeiffer in ‘The Madison,’ and more - The Boston Globe
Your TV GPS, a look at the week ahead in television, appears every Monday morning on BostonGlobe.com. Today’s column covers March 9-15.
British journalist Louis Theroux goes “Inside the Manosphere,” a new documentary out March 11 on Netflix. Theroux, the son of author and Mass. native Paul Theroux, interviews a series of men who work as influencers, telling a vast audience of young men how to succeed in the world, and with women. “Do you consider yourself a misogynist?” he asks one of them. “I love women, and actually understand them,” the man responds. “They want a guy that can lead them, and dominate them.”
Patricia Cornwell’s crime solving medical examiner, Kay Scarpetta, gets the series treatment in Prime Video’s “Scarpetta,” out March 11. Nicole Kidman steps into Scarpetta’s capable shoes, and is joined by a cast that includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, and Ariana DeBose.
Will Forte and D’Arcy Carden costar as siblings who get tangled up in dark doings in Australia in “Sunny Nights,” out March 11 on Hulu. The duo also runs a spray tanning business, which seems like a strange thing to do in a famously sunny place, but maybe that’s where the crime comes in. Forte, a former “SNL” star, was last seen in Netflix’s “The Four Seasons,” while you may recognize Carden as the “not a robot” Janet from NBC’s “The Good Place.”
Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell star in “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan’s latest project, “The Madison,” out March 14 on Paramount+. The duo play a couple who decide to move from New York to Montana’s Madison River Valley. Sure, there’s gorgeous nature to take in, but how’s their independent film scene?
Look for film critic Odie Henderson’s predictions of who will win later this week, and get your own sample ballot ready: The Academy Awards air March 15 at 7 p.m. Will “Sinners” take home trophies for its record-setting number of nominations?
