Bobby Witt Jr. starts the game with a leadoff walk and quickly gets moving on a double by Aaron Judge to left. With runners on second and third, Kyle Schwarber grounds out to score Witt Jr. and give Team USA an early lead. Canada's Mike Soroka escapes without further damage.
Pete Crow-Armstrong kicks off the third with a single through the right side. Two quick outs follow, but Aaron Judge earns a walk to keep the inning going, putting runners on first and second. Kyle Schwarber then beats the throw from third for an infield single that brings Alex Bregman to the plate with the bases juiced. Bregman makes the most of the opportunity when he smokes a grounder towards the hot corner that scores two. Team USA leads by three.
Logan Webb continues to mow down the Canadians. He strikes out Denzel Clark for his fifth punch out of the game and induces a groundout from Otto Lopez. Manager Mark DeRosa elects to go to the bullpen with two outs, and Brad Keller gets a grounder to finish the inning. Webb exits with just four hits and no runs allowed. His 11 strikeouts this WBC breaks the record for the most in a single WBC for a U.S. pitcher.
The dam begins to break for the Team USA offense. After a Roman Anthony single and a Cal Raleigh walk, Brice Turang drives a pitch up the middle to score Anthony. Pete Crow-Armstrong then laces the first pitch of his at bat to center for another RBI single, and Team USA leads by five. Turang and Crow-Armstrong have two hits apiece on the night.

Canada gets on the board when Tyler Black singles on a line drive to left to score Owen Caissie. Brad Keller is replaced by Gabe Speier, who gives up a two-run homer to Bo Naylor. The Canadians trail by two.
The Canadians continue to knock on the door. Edouard Julien and Otto Lopez start the inning with back-to-back singles off David Bednar, and a passed ball pushes them to second and third with no outs. Bednar recovers to get a popout from Josh Naylor and a huge punchout against Tyler O'Neill. With two on and two out, Owen Caissie battles his way to a full count. Bednar comes up clutch with another K to preserve the lead and exit the inning unscathed.
