Timothée Chalamet Set To Star In Next Illumination Film (Exclusive)
Off the heels of a tumultuous awards season for his Best Actor nominated performance in Marty Supreme and a high octane Knicks NBA championship run, Timothée Chalamet now has his sights set on the silver screen once more in the next film by the studio behind the Minions franchise, Illumination.
Sources tell us that Timothée will be playing the lead role in what was described to us as a rom-com with a “higher brow” take in the vein of films like Pixar’s Up, possibly signaling that Illumination may want to earn some prestige and pick up some Academy Award wins in the future. The studio thus far has only earned itself one single nomination for Best Animated Feature with 2014’s Despicable Me 2, whilst their peer studios often receive at least one every season or so.

Few other specific plot details are known at this time, but the film is expected to be announced sometime this week, with a teaser expected in front of July’s Minions & Monsters. That film is expected to hit big at the box office like every other film in the franchise, which means it is the perfect place to try to sell an original film, as many eyes will be on it.
The currently Untitled Illumination Event Film was described in an interview with Collider late last week by CEO Chris Meledandri as “an original” project and is currently slated to release on April 12, 2027–- A prime date for the studio, as they just had luck with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releasing in a similar slot, which just recently passed the billion-dollar mark.
